Travel Plan
Our school actively supports sustainable means of transport for journeys to and from school.
The school has a travel plan which has been approved by Devon County Council. This plan gives details of initiatives the school will undertake to promote sustainable travel.
The new site has no car drop off or parking areas for parents so we are encouraging children and parents to walk to the new site as much as possible. If it is necessary to travel by car we would promote car sharing with other parents. There is a main car park in the town and free parking down South Street where parents can park and then walk down to the school site, to avoid too many cars near the school entrance.
Walking is a great form of exercise, it gives children energy, fresh air and makes them feel happy, it also has many other health benefits.
The school will continue to promote sustainable travel through its newsletters and by arranging events to show that walking and cycling to school is fun.
The school would like to set up a walking bus and would love to hear from parents that would like to be involved in this.
Other school initiatives include:
- Walking to school week to help children identify walk buddies
- Road safety awareness as part of the curriculum
- Bikeability Training for years 3 to 6
- Provision of cycle and scooter shelters
We like to hear ideas from parents so if you have a suggestion or idea on sustainable travel arrangements please do give us a call on 01769 572656.
