Acorns-Reception

We are the Acorns, the small but mighty early learners of SMUPS! We have the luxury of a large inside and outside learning space which is flexible so that it adapts and changes as we grow and the seasons change. We have a huge focus on developing independence and skills so that we fully contribute to the operation of our class team. We build our muscles with big body challenges and develop our fine motor capabilities too. We have a strong connection with our community and nature, exploring places, different objects and meeting new people. The learning journey in Early Years is miraculous and we develop so much in our Reception year. The magical introduction to Phonics and numbers enables us to become young readers, writers and mathematicians. Check out our latest learning adventures here!

We have been busy spotting signs of Spring in Acorns! Spring flowers are popping up in our outside space and adding some colour to our garden. We have been Scientists learning all about the life cycle of a daffodil from bulb to flower and looking carefully at the parts of the plant. We have also been Artists making careful observational drawings, looking carefully at the shapes of parts of the plant, how they join together and how big each bit is in relation to each other to make sure our drawings look like the real thing.
